What a Google + Twitter Merger Means

Several sources are reporting that Google is in early stage talks to acquire or partner with Twitter. If the deals go through Google will have even more searchable content, and results provided in real time. Beyond the undeniable effect on the search industry, the merger would have a number of other effects on Twitter users.
A Google owned Twitter means developers might finally benefit from a more open API without all that throttling Twitter does to keep its search capabilities in house. In addition, we may finally see the fail whale hit the endangered species list. Perhaps the biggest implication in all of this is that Google, in addition to Books, Video, Mail, Desktop, Earth, Mars, News, Shopping, etc…., will now add Human Thought to its inventory of searchable data. Perhaps a Google Engineer will be able to write a program that tells us what women want, or how many people watched the leaked Wolverine movie in the past hour.
